Generation of Computers

1. Write down the full form of ENIAC, UNIVAC and BINAC?

ENIAC- ENIAC (Electronic Numerical Integrator And Computer)

Description-
was the first general purpose computer. It was invented by J. Presper Eckert and John Mauchly

UNIVAC- UNIVAC I (UNIVersal Automatic Computer I)

Description-
was the first commercial computer. It was designed by the same two men who designed ENIAC

BINAC-(Binary Automatic Computer)

Description-
was an early electronic computer designed for Northrop Aircraft Company by the Eckert–Mauchly Computer Corporation (EMCC) in 1949.

2. What was the name of the first calculating device?
Answer: The earliest recorded calculating device is the abacus

Description:-
Used as a simple computing device for performing arithmetic, the abacus most likely appeared first in Babylonia (now Iraq) over 5000 years ago.

3. Who invented COBOL?
Answer:
COBOL is a compiled English-like computer programming language designed for business use. It is imperative, procedural and, since 2002, object-oriented.
OR

COBOL (Common Business-Oriented Language) is a high-level programming language for business applications. It was the first popular language designed to be operating system-agnostic and is still in use in many financial and business applications today.
OR

COBOL is primarily used in business, finance, and administrative systems for companies and governments. COBOL is still widely used in legacy applications deployed on mainframe computers, such as large-scale batch and transaction processing jobs.

4. Who was the first computer programmer?

Answer-  Augusta Ada King, Countess of Lovelace

5. Who invented Turing Machine?
Answer:- The Turing machine was invented in 1936 by Alan Turing, who called it an "a-machine" (automatic machine).

Alan Turning

6. Write two examples of second generation computer?

Answer:- Examples are the IBM 1401, IBM 7090 and 7094, UNIVAC 1107, PDP-1 and 8.

7. What technology was used in Third generation computer?

Answer:- The computers of third generation used Integrated Circuits (ICs) in place of transistors. A single IC has many transistors, resistors, and capacitors along with the associated circuitry. The IC was invented by Jack Kilby.

8. Name the two machine design by Charles Babbage?

Charles Babbage (1791-1871), computer pioneer, designed two classes of engine, a.Difference Engines
and b.Analytical Engines.

Description:-
Difference engines are so called because of the mathematical principle on which they are based, namely, the method of finite differences.

9. Name the parts of analytical engine?

Answer:- The machine was designed to consist of four components: the mill, the store, the reader, and the printer.

These components are the essential components of every computer today. STAY safe
